Our Cathedral Choir The Choir of St Saviour’s in Goulburn is one of the oldest musical establishments in Australia. It’s history is linked to the earliest days of the colony of New South Wales. For much of its almost two hundred years of ministry the Choir has been in service in one of Australia’s most beautiful cathedrals, designed by Edmund Blackett. This tradition has continued to the present day, where the traditionally robed Choir maintains a regular schedule of weekly choir practice, performing music in the Anglican Cathedral tradition. We perform weekly at the 10am Choral Eucharist services, monthly at the Choral Evensong held at 5pm on the first Sunday of the month, and at other special services as they come up, such as Synod, weddings, state funerals, and other diocesan, civil or public events. The style of music is mostly (but not always) classical, in the English Cathedral tradition and style. The Choir of St Saviour’s Goulburn Cathedral has a large and varied repertoire, encompassing music from the Middle Ages to the contemporary, and including original compositions and premieres. We will be presenting a concert later in the year and recording an album of beautiful sacred music, that will be ready in time for Christmas presents! The Choir is available for recitals, weddings, funerals or other events. Please contact the Director of Music for further details. Unlike many charities where donations are lost in admin costs, this is a grass-roots ministry where what you donate goes straight to those who need it. Congregation and Choristers have the option of donating food in the baskets that are at the front of the Cathedral at every 10am Sunday Eucharist. If this speaks to you, you can find out what foodstuffs are currently needed. Find out more!
